MFA Thesis: An exploration of the relationship between humans and the bacteria which live in our bodies through the lens of landscape painting. From the perspective of microorganisms, the human body can be understood as a series of interconnected landscape environments in which they live. The processes which occur in nature such as erosion, competition, predation, and colonization by invasive species mirror the processes which occur at the microscopic level between bacteria. By framing the human body in ecological terms, I am encouraging a shift in how the viewer understands their body and the relationship they have with microorganisms.
