Enzymes on a Graphene Scaffold
This digital painting was created for a professor at Louisiana Tech University's research into enzyme stabilization. His team was researching ways to use graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms, to deferentially assist enzymes in substrate binding. The illustration I created emphasizes this by showing a green ring around the enzymes the scaffold is good at assisting and a red ring around the enzyme type for which the scaffold is less helpful. The enzymes in the red ring are also depicted with faint after images behind them to show the enzymes as shifting back and forth between conformational shapes. This indicates they are not stabilized, unlike the enzymes in the green ring.
